This was a prescribed text in one of my graduate classes and is one of my favorite texts. Unlike many textbooks prescribed at graduate level, this book is written in an easily accessible manner, is not steeped in jargon, and makes for interesting reading. Many of the textbooks I have read at both undergraduate and graduate level have been dry and uninteresting, but this is one of the rare exceptions."Children's Literature in Action" is an excellent introductory guide to children's literature in several genres, i.e. picture books, traditional tales, poetry for children, contemporary realistic fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, and informational books. Her discussions are full of helpful ideas for sharing the love of reading, a deep respect for children as individuals and many suggestions for professional resources. I recommend this for anyone interested in learning more about children's literature and ways to share it.

Great read for anyone wanting to be a librarian. The books gives you ideas and lessons to prepare for children at a school setting.

Arrived on time as described

Content is separated by genre, and great examples are given for each topic. There's also an extensive bibliography to encourage continuing research in the field of children's literature. My only gripe is that the cost of a textbook is always too high... :-\
