Fabulous coloring book. I'm an avid colorist. I buy a lot of coloring books but it's rare that I love every page. This book is one of my favorites in my collection. ...and it's a substantial collection. Beautiful and highly recommended

A beautifully constructed book! Paper is card stock quality, a definite plus for me. Some of the pictures would be beautiful in a frame. I truly wanted to rate it 5 stars but a couple things bug me. I am this way with all adult coloring books but these are just too wonderful to let happen with this book. One picture will take up 2 pages which makes it very difficult coloring in the area of the binding. Also, would like to have seen the pages perforated so they can easily be torn out. Every coloring book should have one sided pages, perforated pages and a high quality paper rather than cheap printer paper. This is what most colorists want in a book. This book almost had it all ! Looking forward to coloring.

 I found this gem of a book at a local big box store. It is filled with gorgeous flowers, garden scenes and inspiring quotes. I was a little disappointed that it was printed on both sides until I test my coloring medium (more on that later.) The designs have a good amount of detail but not so much that it is intricate or too small to color. I appreciate the high quality of this book and hope to see more coloring books by both this artist and by this publisher (Harper Collins) in the future.The designs are printed on both sides of the heavyweight, non-perforated page. Most of the designs merge into the binding. A few of the designs spread across two pages. In my copy, the alignment of the two-page spreads is excellent. The binding is a hybrid of glued and sewn. The sewn binding is the type that has many stitches rather than just a few. Because of the binding and the way the design merge in (though nothing of note is lost in the binding), I will not be removing pages from this book. If you wish to do so, you will have to cut them out and you will probably lose some portion of the design in doing so. I was able to get the book to lay fairly flat by breaking the spine.Only my alcohol-based markers bled through this paper. I was able to use all of my water-based markers, India ink artist pens, and gel pens without any bleed through. Gel pens required some extra drying time but that is common for gel pens on a good grade of paper. My coloring pencils worked excellently. The soft lead pencils went on thick with full coverage and blended beautifully. The hard lead pencils worked well and did not leave indents on the back of the page. I was especially pleased with the way my TomBow brush end markers worked with the paper. I was able to easily blend in my colors without roughing up the surface of the paper or having ink seep through. If you choose to use alcohol-based markers, it will ruin the design on the back of the page. I would suggest that you use a blotter page to keep the ink confined to just the back of the page and not ruin the following pages.These are the coloring medium that I use for testing. If there is something else you feel I should be testing, please let me know and I will see if I can add it to my growing pile:Markers: 1) alcohol-based – Copic Sketch, Prismacolor double ended markers (brush and fine point), Sharpies (fine and ultra-fine) Bic Mark-its (fine and ultra-fine) and 2) water-based – Tombows dual end markers (brush and fine point), Stabilo 88, and Staedler triplus finelinersIndia Ink: Faber-Castell PITT artist pens (brush tip)Gel Pens: Sakura, Fiskars, Uni-ball Signo in the following sizes - 0.28/0.38/0.5/1.0 and TekwriterColoring Pencils: Prismacolor Premier Soft Core, Derwent Colorsoft, Prismacolor Verithins, and Faber-Castell Polychromos

Joyous Blooms to Color is a coloring book with a collection of approx., 84 illustrations (see below) by Eleri Fowler that are accompanied by uplifting quotations.By my count I found: 72 single page illustrations with 5 of them borders to color around text 12 two page spread illustrations.The book is in a square format.What I really like:I love the images throughout the book. So many lovely illustrations that it's hard to decide which one to start on first.I like that there is a little information about the artist and her inspiration at the beginning of the book.I love the selected quotes and they fit very well with the theme of the drawings.The paper is a good weight and a nice white.The paper tooth is excellent for colored pencils.The price is reasonable for what you get.What I would change:The pages have images on both sides which means using markers would sacrifice another illustration to color.There is no listing of images, or page numbers/titles, for me to easily reference an image.There is no test page.Best media for coloring:I recommend using colored pencils or gel pens if you do not want to sacrifice the illustration on the opposite side of the page you are coloring.My favorite image:About 9 or 10 pages in there is a picture of a stone path leading to a table set for two.Overall rating:5/5I can see myself coloring many more of the images from this book. It's a keeper!

This book does not have perforated pages or printing on one side but since I am using pencils and have no desire to take apart the book those things don't bother me. The only thing is that the printing runs into the spine of the book but that's about fifty percent of books. Other than that this is a gorgeous book from cover to cover, beautiful crisp images, lovely illustration and a nice smooth thick paper. I was concerned that the paper would be to smooth for pencils but it's not is takes the pencil really well. I had a bit of trouble blending the colors with a blender pencil but if you blend with a lighter color pencil it works just fine. I was hoping to get all the books from this artist but I understand that in the rest of the books they swapped out the paper for a thinner kind so I won't bother.
